Yes.: Some people have "atypical chest pain" with non-life-threatening conditions such as mitral valve prolapse, a virus with mild inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart and lungs (called pleuropericarditis) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or asymmetric septal hypertrophy (abnormal thickening of one or more walls of the heart). However, any cardiac pain merits a careful cardiac evaluation.
