Usually not: Familial essential tremor usually starts in childhood, but does not usually cause any impairment. Does not go away in adulthood. Other causes of tremor such as metabolic or thyroid problems should be ruled out. Caffeine and medications can cause tremor as well. Rule out wilson's disease which is a disorder of copper metabolism.

Familial Tremor: It is usually bilateral affecting both hands , head and voice, minimal and absent at rest.It tends to increase with age but benign.

No: It tends to persist and it can become gradually more troubling as time goes by.We are talking about years .Most tremors become more pronounced during moments of stress or when fatigued.
