A member asked:

Does esr of 19 mm/hr means that patient had no cancer?

Not sure.: Esr is not a good test for cancer. It can be normal or elevated if someone has cancer. Would recommend additional evaluation if you are concerned.

Not necessarily: The ESR is a very nonspecific marker for inflammation that relies of the settling rate of red cells in a long tube.Red cells coated with inflammatory materials fall faster than those without.A low ESR implies that there are not a lot of circulating inflammatory factors. Cancers may or may not trigger the release of these factors and may or may not yield a normal ESR of 19.

ESR of no value as c: Erythrocyte sedimentation rate by itself is of no value as a cancer marker. It may or may not be elevated depending on the type of cancer or any other non-malignant medical condition, but a normal ESR by itself means nothing.
