Yes, start slowly: Usually, we tell people to wait 8 weeks after hernia repair because of the risk of recurrence is higher during that time. However, if it has been 6 weeks you can and should have already started walking and you can start running, i would not lift weights for another 2 weeks.

Should be fine: I usually tell my patients to return to all usual activity, including exercise, as tolerated by pain and discomfort. Various techniques of repair however may make this recommendation change, but at six weeks you should be ok. Check with your surgeon to be sure.
