Congenital Defect: Omphalocele or umbilical hernia usually disappear before age 5 . Surgical repair is done if protrusion is persistent or complication of obstruction occurs.

Unknown: An omphalocele is a congenital abdominal wall defect (defect that the baby is born with). Cause is unknown. Most will need surgery to repair.

fail to return: By 11 wk abdominal contents return to inside abdomen, failure will result omphalocele, unlike gastrochesis will have sac , abdo.Wall defect is not that significant , most of the time due to genetic defects or failure of programmed signals , environmental , inadequate prenatal care, etc, and some times unknown , don't worry baby will be fine.
