Allergy: White mucus is usually due to allergy. Rarely, severe dry eye can have white, stringy mucus, but in that case your eyes would be so dry that you wouldn't have to ask.Yellow or green mucus indicates infection.Mucus gets hard when it dries out.Rinsing your eyes can rinse out the allergens along with the mucus. Try to identify and remove the allergen.Otc allergy meds, eye drops, allergy shots all help.
