Breast cancer: It relates to testing certain genes which may predispose a person to high risk of developing breast (and also ovarian) cancer. Currently 2 genes can be tested brca1 and brca2. Please note that these are not routine tests and there are certain guidelines to be considered before testing.

BReast CAncer: Brca is short for breast cancer. That's because mutations in these genes increase the risk for breast cancer. The mutations also increase the risk for other cancers, but the higher rate of breast cancer was identified first, so that's how the genes were named.
