What are symptoms with kidney cortical thinning?

Not necessarily any: Kidney cortex contain nephrons or tiny filters ; is outer part of kidney. Can be result of hydronephrosis ; is swelling of entire kidney due to obstruction, congenital or acquired form stone or tumor. Symptoms can be flank or upper abdominal pain, blood in urine, also nausea ;/or vomiting. Can be due to kidney damage from infection causing loss of tissue -> flank pain, hematuria or hypertension.
