No known cause: Crohn's disease is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (ibd) and can involve any portion of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus. There is no known cause. The disease involves all layers of the bowel wall, and can lead to diarrhea, strictures, fistulas and abscesses. It is characterized by "skip areas and asymmetry" in involved areas of bowel.
