Walking pneumonia: This is a poor and virtually meaningless term referring primarily to whether a patient requires hospitalization or can be treated as an outpatient. The duration of cough will depend upon the organism involved. If mycoplasma pneumoniae the cough can be present for many weeks making you wonder if you have cancer. If bacterial it may be very brief, as long as major airways not involved.
