Umbilical cord: How long? Infants rarely need to have the umbilical cord remnant removed. It will eventually fall off with time.

Simple treatment: Treatments like triple dye at birth often delay cord separation that should be complete by 2 wks. If not, i can remove the remnant in the office. The cord itself has no nerves so cleaning and lifting off remaining material is a simple process. If the remaining core is large, multiple daily cleanings with alcohol will promote separation.
