A 62-year-old male asked:
7 months after open mesh inguinal hernia repair occasional stabbing pain in area below scar when having sex, exercising or feeling gassy. normal or no?

Surgery 41 years experience
Likely: This is normal and from temporary skin nerve discomfort. This occurs in the skin below the scar. As the skin numbness wears off there is nerve hypersensitivity that burns or stings. This gradually resolves as the nerves heal. See your surgeon if it does not resolve.
