Depends : Depends on which artery, its size and location, and the reason for the shunt, what is the purpose of the operation. A shunt in the arm for hemodialysis access can be done outpatient facility. A shunt in the chest for cardiac anomaly correction is a major operation to be done in a tertiary hospital facility.
