Depends: There is a condition called macroglossia where people have an enlarged tongue which may make it easy to bite the side of the tongue. Macroglossia can also develop over time due to loss of teeth, mouth breathing, or poor oral posture. Certain cross bites may also make it easy to bite the tongue.

missing teeth: Your teeth keep the tongue in alignment with your oral cavity but if you are missing multiple teeth than your tongue will drift into those spaces and you will bite it or if you don't wear your dentures same thing will happen.
