Prolia: Both medications are anti-resorptive, meaning they prevent breakdown of your bone.  Reclast (zoledronic acid) has been used for longer so has more side-effects that are known.  It also can not be used if you have kidney problems.  Prolia is an injection every 6 months (vs. 12 months with reclast).  Both medications tend to be very well tolerated.

Depends: Both drugs are effective in the treatment of osteoporosis involving the hip.  Prolia is likely to work better than reclast, (zoledronic acid) though there are no head to head studies comparing the two.  Prolia is typically used in people who have had a previous fracture (spine, wrist), or have very severe osteoporosis. Both are well tolerated with few side effects.  Prolia is given twice yearly, Reclast (zoledronic acid) once yearly.

Alendronate is good.: Oral bisphosphonates are generally first line agents becuase of efficacy, price and long term safety record.  Alendronate once a week or risedronate are good choices.  The other meds are second line.

Good news for you!: Hi. You DO NOT HAVE TO FAST before, during, or after Reclast (zoledronic acid) being given! Reclast (zoledronic acid) is given intravenously, bypassing the GI tract entirely (unlike the oral bisphosphonates, which require fasting). Bon appetite!

Reclast (zoledronic acid): There are many patients in whom the bone density study reports low bone density but this does not always cause any symptoms. Reclast (zoledronic acid) will stop further bone loss and may increase bone density.
Tell your wife that she need not worry about this treatment if she does not have any indication of bone fractures.
If she had those issues her doctor should/would have told her.

Osteoporosis: Treatment for osteoporosis can be associated with severe necrotic bone loss.  Please discuss your medication with your treating Dentist and with an Oral Surgeon.

Osteoporosis meds: One issue with some medications used in rheumatoid arthritis, is presence of anti-tumor necrosis factor action, which can make MS worse, but this mechanism does not seem salient in osteoporosis drugs, and these would be very unlikely to adversely affect Myasthenia, as Reclast (zoledronic acid) does not affect acetylcholine in any profound way.  Discuss further with your doctor, but I do NOT see a problem.

is fasting necessary when reclast (zoledronic acid) is taken as a suplement for vitamin d use on the day administered? any answer appreciated.

Doesn't matter: Hi. It doesn't matter if you're fasting or fed when you're given Reclast (zoledronic acid) (zoledronate administered IV). Vitamin D is better absorbed if taken with food.
