Bronchitis: Bronchitis mostly are viral and need no antibiotics. If it is due to sinus infection, i rather use Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) instead of zithromax.

No problem!: Azithromycin is safe for mother and fetus! z-pack is a good choice for bronchitis in pregnancy (500 mg the first day and 250 mg daily for another 4 days. Hope you get well soon!

concerned because my son was sick and put on zithromax and prednisone for what they thought was bronchitis. found out he actually had covid. can the prednisone slow his viral clearance! i am concerned this could hurt his recovery by suppressing immun?

: This combination of meds was/is an early treatment that assisted patients in the first wave of the pandemic. The method of action was not clear but the dosing of prednisone for a brief course did not disable the immune system and did mute the inflammatory response that made so many patients sicker. Please discuss your concerns with his doc, but I do not find this rx a problem.

ASTHMA: SOUNDS LIKE YOUR CHILD HAS ASTHMATIC BRONCHITIS AND NEEDS TO USE THE NEBULIZER EVERY 4-6 HOURS, DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS, SO THAT HE IS WELL HYDRATED, THE PREDNISONE WILL REDUCE THE INFLAMATION, PLEASE ASK YOUR DOC FOR AN ASTHMA ACTION PLAN AS WELL, MAYBE HE NEEDS T BE ON STEROID INHALER AND SINGULAIR (montelukast) AS WELL

Bronchitis: Bronchitis, if acute, is rarely caused by bacteria. It is 9+% viral, some toxic inhalants and a few bacterial like adult whooping cough (Pertussis). If this is treatment of exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, azithromycin, if it is going to be effective should begin to have efficacy within 24 hours.

Variable: Most episodes of bronchitis are caused by viral infection or irritant exposure and do not respond to antibiotics, though they are frequently prescribed. Typical episodes of acute bronchitis may last 2-3 weeks before resolution. Symptoms lasting longer should be reported to your physician as their is a chance of secondary bacterial infection or pneumonia.
