tongue has light yellow coloration after wisdom teeth removal. should i be concerned?

Accepted Answer

No: A slight discoloration of the tongue following surgery in the mouth is not uncommon.  An altered diet, antibiotics if taken, and decreased oral hygiene are some things that can cause the tongue to have a different appearance.

got wisdom teeth removed. took penicillin&medical mouthwash in full (done). now yellow on back of tongue when wake up in am. what should i do?

Brush it: Discoloration of the tongue can have many causes.  Some are from taking certain medications such as steroid inhalers, antibiotics, and other medications.  Smoking or eating strongly  colored food can affect the tongue.  The stain can usually be controlled with brushing of the tongue or use a tongue scrapping device.  If the problem persists or changes in coloration are noted, see your surgeon.

i have a gray/yellow line on one of my wisdom teeth. it is at the border between the guns and the tooth itself. what is this? is it something that needs to be treated immediately?

: May be food impaction, decay, tarter under gum line, fracture. See your Dentist for examination.

Why suffer?: No, pain is not normal.  Erupting wisdom teeth hurt, but there are solutions, like removing the flap of tissue, irrigation, topical anesthetic, extraction, etc.  See a Wisdom Tooth specialist, an Oral Surgeon, for immediate relief.

Bruise: Its just a bruise and will resolve in a week or so. Not uncommon especially in fair skinned individuals.

Evaluation Needed: The cause of a white circle on the side of your tongue could be many things.  It could be your tongue rubbing against something like your bone or fragment or partial or restoration.  Differential diagnosis could also include thrush but oral cancer is also another diagnosis to rule out. It's important that you get this looked at to have a definitive diagnosis.

for wisdom teeth removal, do i have to remove my tongue piercing?

Probably: This is something to discuss with your oral surgeon or dentist.  Likely they will want your tongue piercing removed during the procedure to decrease any chance of it dislodging and getting into your airway or blocking access to your teeth during the removal.

the left side of my chin and tongue went numb a week ago. i have all my wisdom teeth, however one has started protruding. same side. is it related?

Probably not : You need to see a doctor anytime you have numbness of any part of your body.  Wisdom teeth usually cause pain and tightness-not numbness. Please seek medical attention.
