i have vertigo and anxiety and panic attacks just started taking steraline 50mg, everytime i yawn i feel like throwing up and being sick, bad headaches, when i swallow it is dry, and i'm feeling really really spaced is this normal with sertraline?

: Yes, those are common side effects of sertraline. I would recommend to lower the dose in half and gradually increase dose as tolerated until your symptoms are under control.

Manage, not cure: True panic attacks are difficult to cure; we manage them. Therapy can help if there are fears under the surface that need to be addressed.  Attacks can be helped with beta blockers to reduce fast heart rate and shaking; xanax-type meds can worsen things if taken more than very rarely (say once every couple weeks). Ssris are the med of choice, usually in higher doses.

Possibly- what are: The symptoms? Panic attacks often
last 2 to 10 mins. Sx’s can include: sense of severe anxiety or panic, chest tightness or pain, rapid or pounding heartbeat, areas of numbness or pins ; needles type sensation, hot flashes or chills ; heavy perspiration. There may be a tickle sensation in the stomach or nausea, feeling dizzy or faint ; physical shaking. The person may fear that they are going &gt;.

Try The Opposite!: If u feel panic attack coming on or if u're in situation that might bring one on, try this: let it come! actually let it happen! so if u feel one coming on tell urself "i can handle it -even though it won't feel good!" and before one comes or while it's happening 1) do slow "belly breathing"; & 2) alternate between squeezing & relaxing different muscle groups. U'll learn u have control over them!

Many choices: Keep a log to see what triggers your attacks:  people, events, health issues?  Panic attacks usually do not last very long.  Try focusing on simple thought, like "I am OK, this will pass".  Panic usually causes rapid shallow breathing and increased heart rate.  Try taking slow even breaths, in through nose, out through pursed lips.  If attacks become worse, make appt with psychologist for CBT.

You will know: When you suddenly feel like your heart is beating out of your chest, like you can't breath and you are afraid you are going to die---all for no reason.

Panic attacks, or ..: S- have you been diagnosed with panic?
O- it has been my experience that many people call anxiety "panic attacks". There are many causes for anxiety. Medical issues, life stress, and depression to name a few. 
A-Anxiety, etiology unknown
P-Consider getting lab work including a thyroid profile. There may be underlying reasons for your anxiety (trauma?) which may need to be addressed. Thanks you

Find a psychologist: Psychiatrist or counselor who treats anxiety. The most effective treatments are relaxation training (sometimes with the aid of biofeedback -- www.Bcia.Org or www.Aapb.Org) plus cognitive therapy that includes gradual exposure to anxiety-producing situations in imagination and real life. Therapy is sometimes augmented with medication and is quite successful.

Panic Attacks: In the immediate attack, you can practice slow, deep breathing (not fast & shallow -- that will increase symptoms).  It will pass in a few minutes.  Longer term, you can get evaluation & treatment through a psychiatrist and psychotherapist.  Some medications can help; also cognitive therapy can help.  Combined, these methods have a strong likelihood of relief for you.
