Natural Rx!: The risk of dependence for Xanax may increase with dose &amp; duration of treatment. The dose should be lowered gradually when discontinuing therapy or when lowering the daily dosage. I therefore suggest working with the prescribing doctor to discontinue Xanax. Natural therapies for anxiety such as exercise, CBD oil, meditation, aromatherapy, chamomile &amp; playing with a pet should be considered!

Low chances: You have been on very small dose of Xanax only once a day for a year and the risk ofgetting seizures if you stop is minimal.You can still taper it to every other day,and then every 3 days and then stop.But even if you stop abruptly the risk of seizures is unlikely because of you have been on very small dose

Seek detox help: Even though your dose of Xanax has been low I think you should be very careful about possible withdrawal symptoms. Xanax generally should not be stopped suddenly. Vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, respiration levels, and temperature need to be closely monitored during its removal from the body. Grand mal seizures have been well documented. Please seek out professional detox assistance.

Yes: Benzodiazepans like Ativan (lorazepam) have an additicve potential.   And patient will become accustomed to medication and will reqeuire it on regular basis.

4-6 weeks is maximum amount of time recommended.

Yes/no: The dose of xanax (alprazolam) you cited is conservative.  Nevertheless, there is increasing evidence of eventual cognitive compromise in the elderly (which i don't think you are yet... But you're headed there...) from long term bzd treatment.  I really really really try to get my patients off of xanax (alprazolam).  If you are taking it just "once a day" i would think there could be other rx that might work as well.
