Yes: Benzodiazepans like Ativan (lorazepam) have an additicve potential. And patient will become accustomed to medication and will reqeuire it on regular basis. 4-6 weeks is maximum amount of time recommended.

Xanax (alprazolam): Long term sedative use begs the question why they're needed in the first place. Over time, drugs of this type become increasingly less effective, and after two years, it's likely that they are having more of a placebo rather than any clinical effect.

See your doctor: Benzodiazepines such as xanax (alprazolam) are meant to be taken for a temporary period of time. ) 0.25 mg per day is a low dose but you should discuss other treatment options for anxiety. Another ssri besides Prozac may help for long term treatment. You can also discuss non-medication treatment options such as relaxation exercises, deep breathing, yoga and regular stretching. Don't drink alcohol w/ xanax (alprazolam).
