would a hiatal hernia show up on a chest ct scan that was looking at my lungs? the top of my kidneys were visualized in this ct scan. would an ultrasound be an option to find out if i have a hiatal hernia instead of a barium swallow or endoscopy?

: Visualization of an organ depends whether it is included in the field being used for a a test. Instead of self diagnosis tell your MD of your concern and an appropriate test will be ordered.Ultrasound can but is not the best option.

i have gone for my endoscopy test and result shows mild hiatal hernia.can i still do strenuous exercise? would it make it worse if i do?

yes: You can exercize but any increase in abdominal pressure (by straining while holding your breath) may exacerbate your reflux. So if you lift,  breathe as you do so.

can an endoscopy show if you have an ulcer and hiatal hernia and diverticulitas?

GI issues: The upper endoscopy can show a hiatal hernia and also ulcer changes in the upper GI tract.  Diverticulitis is a diagnosis made on clinical presentation (abdoinal pain and fever) and CAT scan of the abdomen which will show the inflammation in the large colon.  For Diverticulosis (no active inflammation) the colonoscopy can show this disease.

had a upper endoscopy the report shows a 4cm hiatal hernia was seen. the dr, tells not to worry about it. is 4cm. i have gerd, sour test in mouth, ?

Hiatal hernia: Large hiatal hernias may very well be associated with gerd, but patients can have hiatal hernias without reflux symptoms.  Just get treated for reflux and don't concern yourself with the size of the hernia at this point.  Make sure that you don't have barrett's esophagus.

based in endoscopy, i have hiatal hernia.  but ct scan with contrast did not show any hernia.  but i have acid reflux.  so, do i have hiatal hernia?

Likely, yes.: The endoscopy would be a more informative test in this regard than would be the CT.  So if pitting the CT against the endoscopy, I’d give the nod to the latter as far as diagnostic accuracy for a hiatal hernia, especially with the symptoms you have?

Yes: It would depend on whether the hiatal hernia is up or down when the procedure is down.  If the hiatal hernia is always above the diaphragm then it would show.

Usually yes.: But sometimes you need esophagram.  Consult gi specialist in any case.

Lot's of people...: ...have hiatal hernias, whether detected either by x-ray or endoscopy. Most are sliding type &amp; appear intermittently, requiring no intervention especially when small. Please call your doctor &amp; ask him/her your question to get a most accurate response re: hernia size as well its reducibility. Some hiatal hernias, like large paraesophageal ones, carry potentially great concern.

Here is why...: Just remember the following two facts: no test has yielded 100% of accuracy; every life event or disease always displays itself as a pattern of full spectrum from its very early hardly detectable state to its late obvious condition. So, when the condition is mild, the picture could be elusive ; very difficult to find it; when severe, easy to find it. For now, just treat what it can be, and repeat.

Cardio: Cardio, non-strenuous activities should be fine, such as elliptical, bicycling, etc.
