1 + 3 for cardiology: After completing an internal medicine residency, one must complete a cardiology fellowship before specializing further into interventional cardiology. This means 3 years of i.M. Plus 2-3 of cardiology (depending on the program) plus 1-2 of interventional.  It amounts to an average of 7 years of training after graduating from medical school, but marriage and family can go on simultaneously!

Many factors: Residencies vary in length.  Primary care fields generally have shorter residencies while surgical fields are 5 years or greater in length.  As a doc practices longer, one gains in experience so that helps in overall patient care.  In choosing a doctor, training is important, but consider one's bedside manner and reputation amongst other patients as well.  Abms board certification is key.

I am concerned about your paranoia.  Paranoia can make a person feel persecuted.  The way you describe your situation makes me think you have some form of mental illness causing your paranoia.

I would recommend you reflect on how you feel, and if you are so inclined, seek care for this.  This is just an opinion, based on your post above.

: Some or none. The answer remains the same no matter how often you ask.  To establish any negative effect (change from baseline) and attract the interest of a lawyer you would need pre &amp; post incarceration x-rays and pulmonary function tests. In the absence of demonstrated new injury they are unlikely to take a case on contingency &amp; not be a good investment to you on a fee basis.

Your choice: As far as do or md, that is a choice that will be made by you depending on the personality and "dr-pt relationship" you develop with your dr./gp.  With chronic neurological issues, you may be better served seeing an internist as your primary care provider, however i know many board certified family medicine docs who are also very capable. They are your primary doctors and treat a wide range of illnesses. They refer you to specialists if they are unable to manage a certain illness. In the hospital, they are also your primary doctor and manage your care with specialists as needed.
