A bit of everything: Internal medicine physicians usually take care of adults. They can practice in the clinic or in the hospital. In the clinic, they act like family physician. They are your primary doctors and treat a wide range of illnesses. They refer you to specialists if they are unable to manage a certain illness. In the hospital, they are also your primary doctor and manage your care with specialists as needed.
