No: Teeth might drift slightly in some specific situations in a forward direction over time and perhaps close a nearby space, but it would not be directly caused by an erupting wisdom tooth. They certainly won&#x27;t close generalized spaces in front teeth.

i got my wisdom teeth taken out about two weeks ago. there are now two open holes where they were taken out, will these close?

Yes: Yes tissues take several weeks to close fully. It will actually take 4 to 6 months for the bone underneath to fill in.   Keep the areas clean by brushing and rinsing now that is has been a couple weeks since extractions.  (we however tell patients not to rinse for the first several days after extraction)  as long as it if not sore or swollen, just give it time.

No: Most people do have wisdom teeth, some people have two or three, but not all four and some people may not have any.  Some people can have extra sets of them!

Accepted Answer

Start at about 15: Wisdom teeth eruption can vary on ages, most likely around 15 years old.  Whether the wisdom teeth erupt properly is another matter.  The teeth can no erupt at all (completely impacted- in bone, bone and tissue;) partially impacted- part way through the tissue or fully erupt.  Many people are born these days without wisdom teeth.  Should have your dentist monitor as you get to this age.

Sure...it Could: Usually, it does not cause much bother though.  But, if you have severely impacted wisdom teeth that are completely unerupted, it will be a bit more difficult to ext them.  Most normally, the vast majority of my patients who have wisdom teeth taken out, complain of soreness, not pain, for 2-3 days at a level of about 1-3, on a scale of 0-10 with 10 being worst pain possible.

Approx. 9 years old: Around age 9, wisdom teeth start to form inside the bone of the upper and lower jaws (maxilla and mandible.) .The jaw have a lot more growing to do, so they are not yet at their full density.

Depends: They can start to erupt into your mouth at a very early age.  I have taken wisdom teeth out on a 13 year old girl before, but the average is late teens.

Wisdom teeth: Wisdom teeth generally erupt between the ages of 17 and 21, but can come in earlier or later. It is best to monitor this through clinical exams and x-rays with a dentist to evaluate whether or not there is room for them to come in or if they need to be removed when it is easier and has less associated risk. Consult with an Oral Surgeon, or your General Dentist.

They do stop growing: Wisdom teeth do stop erupting when they contact an opposing tooth or get hung up with the adjacent tooth.
