hi! my dr told me to go on iodine/sea salt free diet for 3 weeks thus to avoid fish, dairy products etc.. does whey protein (whey is derivative of milk) contain iodine? or should i drink vegan protein?

: Soy products, main sources of vegan protein, such as soy sauce, soy milk, and tofu contain PLENTY of iodine. You should avoid any dairy products and sea foods. Unprocessed meats, including beef, pork, and poultry are fine to consume and those are good protein source for you.

Whey powder: from free range cows can be helpful.  If doc is ok w/you exercising, that's great too.  Look at whole picture.  How is the rest of your diet?  Do you get enough sleep?  Low carb and sugar works well for many folks too.  Peace and good health.

Probably.: Protein shakes can be problematic for people with kidney problems or who don't stay well hydrated. So long as your urine is light in color or clear, and you tolerate the drink (no gut symptoms of allergy or intolerance), it's unlikely to harm you. Be careful of calorie content in your shake, though; some are surprisingly high in unnecessary sugars.

Yes, unless allergic: There are 2 main groups of foods to avoid on a candida diet: sugars (including lactose) & simple starches that feed candida & any foods you may be allergic to. Those with candida often develop allergies to gluten, dairy, eggs, corn, soy, almonds & yeast. If you are not allergic to whey then it's healthy to eat. The best way to tell is to avoid potential allergens for at least a week then try them.

Yes and no: The whey protein  drink is ok any time of day. The intense exercise before bed time that is not a good idea since it could significantly affect your ability to fall asleep.  Even though you did not complain of insomnia, google "sleep hygiene" to get answers.

Here are some facts: For an athlete, your protein needs vary from 1.2g/kg to 1.7g/kg daily. So, you can take your weight in kilograms, and multiply by 1.2 to see how many grams is minimum. Then you can multiply by 1.7 to find out the maximum. Then measure how much whey you drink both times of the day and see where you fit in.

Probably yes: Whey protein itself is probably safe, but with any food supplement, you can never be sure that the product has no contaminants (other substances that can harm you), since no safety agency regulates supplements.  There have been cases of people getting ill (liver problems) from some protein supplements that may be imported from abroad.
