No: A deviated nasal septum is crooked or displaced cartilage and bone inside the nose. This can only be corrected with surgery. Noses sprays may provide some temporary relief but no cure. Remember, over the counter nose sprays should only be used  for a few days at a time as they can cause a rebound effect making the nose more blocked and can damage the inside of the nose.

No: Although a steroid nasal spray may help with allergic symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose and sneezing it will not improved the actual anatomic problem of the deviated septum.

Need ENT: evaluation to determine the nature of the lesion.  There are a number of possibilities and visualization is required to distinguish between them.  A biopsy may be required.

: Allergy testing, avoidance of smoke and allergens is recommended. Discuss a PCD screening test with a biopsy and nasal NO, immune work up with a physician. : Locally applied steroid nasal sprays are metabolized (used &amp; broken down) at the site of application. No amount in high enough quantity to affect your immune system is absorbed into the blood. It will also not damage your nose if used as directed. These meds are available over the counter in many forms because they have a proven safety profile over many years before OTC status was granted.

Go see ur Family Doc: If your nose is still bothering after an incident from 2mo ago, it's time to see your Family Doc for an initial evaluation. S/he can then refer to ENT if appropriate. Since you didn't mention type of nasal spray, I'll offer unasked bit of advice: avoid nasal decongestant sprays which can cause rhinitis medicamentosa. Nasal septal perf: If you already have an issue with your nasal septum that puts you at risk for developing a septal perforation, use of saline nasal spray will not necessarily prevent the perforation from occurring. If you have not done so already, see an ENT for evaluation and treatment of the cause. This may prevent the perforation.

There might be: an infection, perhaps folliculitis.  Try Bactroban (mupirocin)

can untreated deviated septum cause constant mucus in chest? is this post nasal drip? how is this treated? it's affecting my breathing substantially.

Yes it can: A deviated septum is common, but when severe, can block your nasal passages & change airflow to create additional mucus in your throat. There may be membrane swelling in the side bones of the nose, also called turbinates.  Swelling of these tissues can also block nasal passages & increase drainage.  Your doctor can examine your nose, try some nasal medications, or refer to an ENT for surgery.
