EAR INFECTIONS:: Can be #1external ear infection/swimmers ear or otitis externa; or #2 middle ear infection or otitis media. Doxycyclind is not a first line antibiotic choice for either of the two.

EAR INFECTION:: Ear infection is mainly of 2 types: #1. Otitis media or middle ear infection, common in children. #2. Otitis externa or external ear canal infection /swimmer's ear, seen in children and adults.
 Doxycycline is not the drug of choice to treat either of these two. Your doctor needs to see what you have and treat accordingly.

Otitis media: Hard to know. You may not be on the correct antibiotic, you may need supplemental decongestant, there may be other issues in progress. If this continues unabated go and see an ENT specialist.

Medication Questions: We do not offer treatment advice here. But, i know of no ear infection that would respond to doxycycline. That is not an appropriate antibiotic to treat that problem.

Levofloxacin: Doxycycline mat not be sufficient to eradicate the most common bacteria that are responsible for an ear infection, while levofloxacin will. It should not bee routinely prescribed for children and adolescents, however.

No not a common side: I think there are better antibiotics to use for an ear infection viz.amoxacillin

It's complicated...: First, I am skeptical you developed a UTI while taking doxycycline, which is active against the large majority of UTI bacteria. Vaginal yeast infections can be triggered by doxy -- maybe that's it. Prednisone would be fine for your ear, but can make yeast infections worse. All in all a complex situation. You'll need to rely on your doctor to work it out. Good luck!

i was prescribed cefdinir for an ear infection one week ago. i took four doses before i realized that it was causing my horrible stomach ache. i was prescribed doxycycline and have taken four doses. i am still having pain and fullness?

: Unfortunately, most of the antibiotics used for treating ear infections can cause GI upset, like Cefdinir, Augmentin, and Doxycycline. Try taking it with food and/or probiotics. Avoid consuming anything containing Calcium within 1 hr of each dose as it will bind the antibiotic, thereby deactivating it. OTC Famotidine or Esomepraprole may help with the discomfort.
