A little: Cranberry juice has sugar, which can help a little the way any juice can. Plus staying well hydrated is important. In regards to it's laxative power, not really. Cranberries themselves offer fiber the same way other berries do, and that is substantiative. However, juices have little fiber and aid little as a laxative.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Oils and juices can improve and relieve constipation.  You should adjust your diet if the constipation is chronic by adding more vegetables and fruits.  Sometimes you will need laxatives or stool softeners on an occasional basis.  They are available in the pharmacy.

i haven't been able to poop for 9 days now. i've drank coffee, tea, eaten bananas, cranberries and even taken 3 constipation pills. is this serious?

Obstipation: I recommend that you be examined if this is an unusual bowel problem for you. Concerning symptoms would be abdominal cramping and dissension, vomiting and complete absence of any stool for all those days. After your physician or a gastroenterologist rules out any intestinal obstruction, you may be prescribed a laxative and/ or rectal suppository or enema.

Miralax (polyethylene glycol)   Long term : Start dulcolax tabs at night for a few days as well as MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) 1 capful daily dissolved in water 
eat a healthy diet and avoid milk for a while
gradually decrease the MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) over a period of 3-4 weeks.

Constipation remedy: There is no one size fits all constipation remedy, but pts your age usually have constipation due to lack of fiber in the diet, low water intake, excess meats, or drugs that slow gut movement (pain killers). Try drinking more water, eating fiber (fruits, veggies, oatmeal), taking metamucil, or cutting down on meats or pain meds.

Constipation: Constipation can be caused by lack of fiber in the diet. Please decrease sugars and fats in diet, and increase foods with fiber, like beans and green leafy vegetables. Drink lots of water.

See: A GI specialist. Try high fiber soft diet, drink plenty of fluids and increase activity level. Your GI May place you on stool softener, laxatives and or suppository or rectal manual stool evacuation if indicated

Increase water: Treating constipation at home involves increasing per day fluid intake (2.5 liters for female, 3.5 liters for male) including apple juice and prune juice, increasing fiber content of diet (more fruits and vegetables, apple/prune juice or fiber supplement), and using a stool softener for 1-3 days. Make sure not to strain as this can cause rectal hemorrhoids and bleeding)
