i have recently been diagnosed with generalized adenomyosis, i am currently experiencing pain on the left abdomen and pain medication isnt working. i also stopped taking oral contraceptives on my last period. what could be causing the pain?

Possible answers: First, would consider Gynecologist visit and evaluation for endometriosis, or ovarian cyst.  But colon problems and other bowel issues should not be overlooked.  A kidney stone might present this way.  So, just looking at this in general, it would benefit you to track this down thoroughly.

i have bad back pain. i also have large breasts. can this cause the back pain. medication isn't working anymore. please help!

if i am having an emg done, should i avoid any types of medications?

Perhaps: Some physicians prefer that you hold blood thinners, such as aspirin, coumadin, warfarin, plavix, aggrenox, & others, or if you take Mestinon (pyridostigmine) for myasthenia gravis, you should check with the office several days ahead of your appointment to be certain. Avoid the use of topical creams and lotions on the day of the test.  Prescription and otc pain medicines do not affect the test results.

besides death, what can over dosing on pain medication lead to or caulse?

Stroke/encephalopath: If you od and stop breathing etc..Your brain will not get enough oxygen and may suffer anoxic encephalopathy (stroke is usually one area of brain, encephalopathy=entire brain) which maybe worse than death. Next bad thing is a heart attack. Maybe worse is you may not be looked at so nicely as a guy who abuses and od on narc...

Not a simple answer: It depends on which medications you are on at the moment.  If it is 3 medications for pain control , then it my not be the best course of action. If it is 3 medications for blood pressure, then it may be appropriate depending on the doses of each and which mechanisms of action are being utilized.

Pain medication: Narcotic pain medication should be used for short periods after an injury or surgery, days to a week or two.  Try to use less pain meds every few days, follow up with appointments for your doctor or rehab if prescribed. Change to non-narcotic pain meds as soon as able. Take pain meds to make pain tolerable. If you take the medication to get rid of all pain, all the time, addiction is probable.

Yes: Laudanum was an opiate used widely in the 19th century by both civilians and military.

Pain meds: Tylenol (acetaminophen) or nsaids.  Next level is tramadol or lidocine patch.

Accepted Answer

Depends on cause: Your question is very hard to answer.  By not working do you mean you have side effects, or poor pain relief.  It may be that the dose is not high enough.  The "right" medication is the one that helps.  Depending on the cause of your pain other medications may help you.
