MRSA  Transmission: Mrsa occurs through direct contact with:
someone who has an active infection
someone who is a carrier of the infection (colonized)
a contaminated object.
After a person comes into contact with a contaminated surface or object, he or she may become a carrier of the bacteria (colonized). An active infection with MRSA can develop when a person is colonized and has an open cut.

i'm on clindamycin for mrsa. i'm aware it's a dangerous antibiotic, but is it safer via iv or orally?

Varies: I would not really say clindamycin is a dangerous antibiotic in general.  The main issues in your case would be that a fair amount of Mrsa strains are resistant to clindamicin and also it can cause (as many antibiotics can) pseudo membranous colitis which is when antibiotics can kill normal bacteria in the gut and unhealthy bacteria can overgrow.  Iv verse po each has their plusses and minuses.

i have sinus mrsa. i was put on oral vancomycin.  i heard that won't absorb.  what can i do to get rid of it?  i just had surgery.  is that dangerous?

Sulfa drugs: Mrsa means methicillin resistant staph. Aureus.  Many infectious disease specialists become very concerned about this.  The bacterium simply is resistant to this particular antibiotic.  In my experience most of these organisms are sensitive to sulfa drugs.  Incidentally, vancomycin is not given by mouth.  I do not think it is dangerous.  Get a culture and sensitivity and be placed on correct drug.

???Not really: As you are the one with the history of mrsa, so getting a tattoo should be fine.  No one should get a tattoo  after you with the same needle!  if done correctly, and cleanly, by a certified tattoo artist you should be fine.

MRSA skin infection: MRSA can certainly be a bane to health care workers like you. It sounds like your case is mild, since u were only given topical therapy. Bactroban is fine in pregnancy, so with this you'll be able to clear it up. MRSA sometimes can crop up later - but if so, I recommend reaching out to an Infectious Diseases doctor who can certainly guide you. Once I treated a whole family with MRSA. See doc if Qs

The : The most important thing for her to do is practice good hygiene. Hand washing is key!  to answer your question, yes she can cause infection in another part of her body. For example if she sneezes and forgets to wash her hands and inadvertently touches an open sore/cut on her body, there is a chance for infection. Like i stated previously this can be prevented by simple handwashing. There are treatments for people colonized with mrsa, she should discuss this with her doctor.

Bactroban (mupirocin) ointment: For symptomatic patients I have actually filled their ear canals with bactroban (mupirocin) ointment. After several days the ointment warms up and slowly comes out of the canal. This improves the canal skin and should cure the mrsa. You will need to find an ENT to help you with this.

Bactroban (mupirocin) works well: on MRSA often, but in some cases oral antibiotics are necessary and or drainage. If not better in 48 hours call for oral meds, culture and possible drainage.
