Depends: Depends on what is going on. Getting to sleep? Staying asleep? Poor quality sleep? Older people tend to have difficulty maintaining sleep. Usually chronic medical problems, medications, and sleep disorders such as sleep apnea could be the cause. Find out what the problem is with sleep. That will help guide what the problem may be, which may help guide recommendations.

Edler Support: Congratulations on being there for one another.  Anxiety can be a bit contagous, passed on from one to another.  Try to introduce new ideas and topics into conversation and daily life so as to avoid this.  Look for some senior/elder care support from your county aging services (found in blue pages of phone book).  Continue to be grateful for one another and live in the present.

Anxiety in elderly: Your grandma may be like many others her age in having sleep difficulty, but there's help for it.  You could help her get to her family doctor for some help with this issue.  If it helps for you to call and let her know you're okay -- and you want to do this -- by all means do so.  Are things you're doing that worry you too? Maybe take a close look at those to see if you need attention also.

Remember: Fatigue and "sleeping a lot" are very nonspecific symptoms, with many causes.  If you are worried about her, you should make sure this issue is reviewed with her primary care doctor so that a reasonable evaluation can be undertaken.

It is fear: Fear of loosing dear ones, can cause such nightmares.
You may want to talk about it, and discuss where thius is stemming from. Conversations may have been over heard by her, which is internalised. 
They are not always rational at that gae and need help coping with the concept and idea of death.

Bedbound not eating: Please go to the ER, there could be a
lot going on. If you literally do not walk at all for 1 month it is hard to begin walking  again . But could also be thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune process, sleep apnea ,diabetes depression, Your GM needs a full work up with xray, labs CBC, CMP, thyroid, B12,, urine , cortisol, Go t o ER ASAP it could be reversible -85 is not that old.

Common problem: This is a very common problem, especially in the elderly.  Though otc preps such as tylenol (acetaminophen) pm can have side effects, in general they would be safe to try.  The best course would be for her to check with her primary health care provider who knows her medical history.

Fragility Fractures: Without specific details, i would speculate that grandma suffered what are known as "fragility fractures". These occur when an elderly lady or man with underlying osteoporosis (critically low bone mass) sustains fractures due to a relatively low energy injury mechanism because the bones are weaker than normal. The sleeping girl is probably much younger with normal bone mass.

Needs evaluation : if she is in so much pain that she can't sleep she needs evaluation. It can be many things including infection, arthritis etc. see PCP
