Fragility Fractures: Without specific details, i would speculate that grandma suffered what are known as "fragility fractures". These occur when an elderly lady or man with underlying osteoporosis (critically low bone mass) sustains fractures due to a relatively low energy injury mechanism because the bones are weaker than normal. The sleeping girl is probably much younger with normal bone mass.
