Here's an idea: You're probably describing myoclonus, which happens to many of us especially as we go in or out of sleep. There's a lot about sleep that's mysterious. Exercise makes people sleep deeper and get more restorative benefit from it, and chances are this is one side-effect of the benefits of gym workouts. Keep it up at the gym.

Shakes: If your whole body really shakes, it can be chills, nervous reaction, or  type of convulsive activity which doesn't sound likely. Or perhaps you feel like your body is shaking when it actually is not. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue but if you're quite concerned about this discuss this with your physician.

What you are experiencing sounds normal. It is called a hypnagogic state and is basically the transition period where your body is drifting off into sleep. Because we dream when we sleep, in order to protect ourselves, our brain slightly paralyzes the body so that we don't hurt ourselves (or others) by acting out our dreams. Could be allergy or.: Could be an allergic reaction, e.g. to bed covers, if you have changed detergents, or a sleep onset disorder. See your pcp and discuss.

I would advise taking a medicine like tylenol (acetaminophen) and / or advil to help with these likely temperature fluctuations and drink fluids during these times and see if this helps. See neurologist: How do you know you shake as if you were having a seizure while you sleep? Are you awakened? Are there any other symptoms when you awaken? Does your body tend to jerk just as you're FALLING asleep or just as you're WAKING up? Is that what you're meaning? Anybody observing you while asleep to describe what's up? If none of those questions apply then, best to see a neurologist for an examination.
