A member asked:

5 year old moves around a lot during sleep, twitches and body will tense up and shake for a couple seconds? what is this?

May be normal: I would get a referral to see a pediatric neurologist to make sure nothing serious is going on.

Neurologist: I would recommend you seeing a Neurologist or discussing this with your child's doctor because there is a chance these could be seizures and further work-up would be needed. Moving around during sleep is pretty normal, but the tensing up and shaking could be a seizure. Videotape it and take it to your primary doctor.

Twitching + shaking: Possible that this represents normal movement however it could also represent restless leg syndrome or more remotely type of benign seizure. Best to followup with your child's pediatrician to sort all of this out.
