Take Your Temperatur: Can't say but are you having fevers. The  body feels  cold but is it? If you are  perspiring and it evaporates  you feel cold. It could be a  vascular or  a metabolic  problem but uncertain why only in the afternoon. Do you take any medciations that might have their full impact  around that  time of day and thus you feel cold. You will be  evaluated by your physician for  some of these  things.

Suddenly feeling cold and at the same time feeling pain suggests an infection with activating your immune system resulting in fever. Don't worry.: If your husband has a large roll of visceral fat, they will be cold.  But the kidney area is not cold for any medical issue that i've ever heard about.

For how long?: If this is a new occurrence in the last few days, then i'd say you have a viral infection and it should resolve on its own with time. Check your temperature and seek help if it is high or if this is going on for a long time.

If your symptoms are prolonged (more than a couple of weeks), then it could point to something serious and needs a medical evaluation. See your primary care doc!
