No: There have been similar and occasional complaints such as yours however though not born out by science. Your dose is huge--recommended is only 30-100 mcg daily. Biotin, also vitamin h or b7, helps convert food to energy ; builds hair ; nails. Found in almonds, eggs, liver, pecans, sardines ; whole grains. Though biotin is nontoxic, try getting it in foods instead ; see what your weight does!

Hmmm.: Weight gain.  Not familiar with that use.  Stay between 20 to 30 units a day and you will be ok.  Biotin deficiency is very rare.

Anecdotal: But i'm impressed with what i've read, at least about acne flares. If you're taking it "for your hair" (and i can't guarantee it), you're welcome to start using benzyol peroxide on your face at the first sign of an acne breakout, or before; to avoid weight loss, hit the treadmill or your favorite fitness activity.

Need more info: I doubt that biotin, a vitamin, causes weight gain. There is a possibility though,  at least theoretical, that some component in the purchased product causes weight gain. That would depend on the  specific manufacturer of your product. I think you should look at another explanation - more calorie intake, less activity, less sleep - as the cause for your weight gain. N0: There is no evidence that biotin causes weight gain.  It is eating too much and exercising too little which cause weight gain (yes, even in low thyroid status).

Neither: 5000 mcg sounds like a huge dose but it is just 5 mg and is very safe and non-toxic. Biotin plays an important role in metabolism so some claim it can help lose weight, but I know of no evidence it causes weight gain or loss (it might help if one is deficient but deficiency is rare). It may help lower blood sugar a bit.
