Usually not:: After retinal detachment surgery, some technique is done to close the tear or opening in the retina. If gas is used, one needs to be quiet so that the laser or freezing technique used to cause an adhesion around the tear so it seals, one needs to be quiet and still enough to allow it to heal. Some patch both eyes to keep the person quiet for a few days.

Vision changes: would be a first symptom, although not always the case, and also accidental sneeze holding wouldn't cause retinal detachment, not enough force to cause such complication. However, I don't blame you if you are concerned, see your ophthalmologist for exam and reassurance, best wishes

It varies: The purpose is so you don't accidentally bump or rub your eye during sleep. It varies from doctor to doctor:  a few days to a week or two. It also depends on how quickly you heal. Ask your retina specialist.

Get evaluated: You are a boxer and have had a detachment, presumably from trauma.  Floaters are common but can be a serious warning in an eye that has already had a detachment (at a young age).  Immediately get an appointment with the retinal doctor that re-attached your retina.

Flashes of light: Can be associated with stimulation of the retina. There can be other causes, but your history would make it more likely to be retinal in nature. When you blink the eye undergoes movement. Some patients with a scleral buckle or area of retinal tears that have been repaired by laser or if vitreous gel is still present over these areas, occasional flashes with eye movement can be noted by a patient.

Surgical aftereffect: The ophthalmology center that performed your dad's eye surgery should provide follow up appointment to get his eyes checked and suggest tear drops or other medicine as indicated to treat the resultant dryness.

On symptoms: If you had re-attachment surgery in the left eye, the retinal surgeon should have checked the right eye for risk.  You have PVD in this eye and I am guessing the same retinal specialist made this diagnosis and found no detachment or risks.  Given your young age, you probably should be checked every six months for a while but be alert for symptoms like light flashing and multiple floaters.

im 50 yrs old. otherwise healthy. i am an avid heavy weightlifter for 28 years. i recently had emergency retinal detachment surgery on my left eye. can i go back to my heavy weightlifting when i recover? weightlifting is a huge part of my life.
