Constipation: Women tend to have  a wider pelvis and a shorter trunk than men.  They also have a more complex hormonal cycle, and give birth.
They also experience menopause, which drastically alters their hormone cycle.
So their anatomy, physiology predisposes women to have more problems with a redundant, floppy colon, outlet obstruction, and pelvic floor disorders.

Unusual: To perform a rectal ultrasound for the described symptoms. Ask the ordering doctor what they were looking for. Colitis, rectal inflammation, maybe hemorrhoid could cause thickening on an ultrasound. Usually a digital examination & maybe sigmoidoscopy is indicated to look at the rectal lining. Just don't know what was to be expected from a rectal ultrasound, looking at the prostate?

Pain in abdomen: If you feel it is not pain similar to constipation, then I would recommend starting with a good gynecological exam and then eventually a colonoscopy.

female 38,gp given omeprazole 20mg taken am &pm for 1mth now for pain after eating,suspected gastritis but no red flags .i have a little jelly mucus with dry pellets of poo could it be the ppi ?i do suffer from constipation and take laxido?

: I wouldn't attribute the mucus to a ppi. Mucus in stool is not unusual in people with irritable bowel symptoms who take laxatives. However ppi's can affect BM's causing both diarrhea and/ or constipation. Either way small amounts of mucus in stools aren't serious but large amounts can be a sign of bowel pathology.

hi , i am 35 y.o men . for the 4 last day i've had constipation and my urine is much darker color . i feel weaker , and has problem with gas bloating.

Hydration: Proper hydration is critical, providing no other medical issues. Urine color may be used with the goal as being clear to light yellow. That will definitely help with the constipation also. If, in spite of increasing your water intake, you still experience a tendency to constipation please mention it to your doctor, since further work up might be needed.

Bloating/ gas/ pain: May be food intolerances, record what occurs when eat dairy, gluten soy, or try no dairy x 1 wk ,then no gluten x 1 week then no soy x 1 week, Constipation-even w/ BM  can cause pain and gas, try Gas-x 1 before  meals &amp; milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) 1 tablespoon 2x/day x 4, Check  stool guiac, reflux , h pylori, vaginitis ( mycoplasma even w/o sex), and  ultrasound  of  gallbladder/ ovaries. f/u w/doc

It is also important to drink at least 64 ounces of water daily and get regular aerobic exercise. A good probiotic to help replenish good gut bacteria is also beneficial for digestive health. If with these changes constipation is problematic, seek medical help.

Depends: Constipation is common.  A person's diet, activity, physical and emotional well being can all have an affect on the digestive tract. There is also variation of what is "normal" and it is not "necessary" to go everyday. Red flags include age over 50, bleeding, family history of colon cancer and abdominal pain that is severe.

Use Usual Physiology: Age & many other issues important, yet not stated. If constipation belief correct, ensure not dehydrated, increase intake of materials poorly digested, not absorbed & bind water; e.g. Soluble fiber, dried prunes (have some sugars we cannot digest), enough to work and especially dramatically increase physical activity, walking, running, etc., again enough to work.
