Depends: Constipation is common. A person's diet, activity, physical and emotional well being can all have an affect on the digestive tract. There is also variation of what is "normal" and it is not "necessary" to go everyday. Red flags include age over 50, bleeding, family history of colon cancer and abdominal pain that is severe.

Usually not: Most often constipation is due to dietary factors, particularly not enough water and fiber. However, if increasing fiber and water does not improve your constipation then you should be evaluated changes in bowel habits can indicate problems such as colon cancer.
