When : When staring at the computer screen, your eyes may dry out. In addition to resting your eyes, you can also try over-the-counter artificial tears while working at the computer. Also try to remember to blink when working at the computer.

If you have eye strain and over 40, you may need a prescription for glasses to work at the computer. The reading distance is a little further than the distance for reading books, so an intermediate reading prescription may be needed.

If you do not use prescription distance glasses normally, you can also use over-the-counter reading glasses. I recommend patients to try on different powers, and see which ones are most clear at the distance they normally sit from their computer screen.

Probably Not: Your current symptoms are not likely due to your past actions. More likely your work in front of the PC is taking it's toll. I recommend periodic breaks from looking at the screen. Artificial tears and eye wetting drops can be helpful as well. Make sure you have good lighting in the room and if symptoms continue, seek evaluation with an ophthomologist

Dry eyes: Dry eyes are a common cause of blurry vision that gets worse and then gets better during the day.  While artificial tears provide temporary relief, they do not treat the underlying cause.  I would speak to your doctor about more advanced options, which range from   Cyclosporine eye drops (restasis) to punctual plugs.  Good luck!

Stop using: Stop using the products. Find the products that maybe a little difference or just use normal saline.

Drops: Dry eyes when working, especially on a computer often results from a low blink rate.  Artificial tears are the first line of defense applied regularly.  You may also benefit from the 20/20 rule where every 20 minutes look up and rest the eyes with blinking for 20 seconds.  If these don't work you may need Restasis or tear duct plugs.  You can also try omega-3 oil supplements.

Summer eye irritants: It is probably more common to have these symptoms in the winter when the air is drier.  However, dry and dusty climates can certainly cause eye irritation, and air conditioning and fans blowing during the summer can worsen dry eye. Ocular allergies may be common as well.  Increased outdoor activities during the summer can lead to more exposure to airborne irritants and allergens.

Artificial Tears: If the dryness is in the context of contact lens use, then switching brands or discontinuing the lenses is the first choice.  Treatment for dry eye ranges from artificial tears, to prescription eyedrop medications (such as restasis) to punctal plugs.

Dry eyes: Get to a specialist eye MD. There are many treatment, depending on the underlying cause. Some of them are permanent like silicon punctum plugs. The effect of Restasis eye drops can be long lasting.

when i'm home, my eyes are fine, but when i go outside, they get sensitive and get dry and get red too sometimes. what is this, and how can i fix it?

Eye allergies?: I would need to know more about it to be sure but it could be eye allergies.  In which case u could try some allergy eye drops and see if that helps.  Could also be eye irritation from light, wind dust, pollution, smoke, etc
