i got my appendix taken out laparoscopically a week and 2 days ago. ive used medical marijuana my whole life and was wondering if itd be okay to consume edibles instead of smoking because i dont want to cough?

Yes, it could be: Smoking any substance irritates the airways and lungs and can lead to coughing, mucous, etc.  So yes, your cough could be caused by your smoking. Of course, mj can cause other side effects as well.

See a doctor: The symptoms might be caused by irritation of your airways or lung tissue, but might also represent an infection of the airways (bronchitis) or lungs (pneumonia).  It is best to see a doctor as soon as possible.  If you develop difficulty breathing in the meantime it would be best to go to the ER.  Good luck!

Probably Nothing: I don't want to make too little of this but given what you described, didn't sound like anything more than a muscular or skeletal pain. If it gets worse Or you start getting any shortness of breath, seek immediate medical attention. Otherwise, I expect it will get better soon. Take a hot soak and stretch.

Possibilities: It is hard to speculate on what is going on with so little info. Was there something in the weed that your body reacted to ? Did you have a pre-existing lung issue that has no become symptomatic ? I will likely require an exam &amp; testing to sort this out. When you are ready to do so get it done. Because its a toxin: The lungs were not made to inhale smoke, and if an irritant such as smoke is introduced there job is to try to get it out by causing coughing and increase mucous production. Be lucky that your lungs are telling you that they do not like it and please listen to them.

: Why would you want to start two bad habits while quitting one. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells, cause cancer in many organs, hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. 
Marijuana is a psychoactive drug and will mess with your brain, and damage your lungs like tobacco.
