Perforated TM: I am not sure what is your question. If it is a perforated drum, generally it should be surgically repaired unless there is a particular problem, such as severe eustachian tube dysfunction. Even then, some solutions are possible. The ear usually should be kept dry. You may need a second opinion.

ENT: The ENT is best qualified to evaluate your eardrums. He or she will assess your drums to see if fluid or sometimes you might have had infection calcifying the drum. He or she may set up specific testing to see how your hearing is doing or anatomical image.

TM perforation: Either your regular doctor or ENT specialist may be able to see perforated eardrum on exam. Audiology testing (hearing levels and tympanogram) is also useful to uncover changes in hearing and mobility of the eardrum. In mean time, keep ears dry until this condition is ruled out

when're back to see the dr and am now being refered to an ent.. said my eardrum looks like it either had a hole or it's scaring.. should i be worried?

'ear Me: Don't Worry: Well, don't worry until you get the skivvy from the ENT guy. It depends on what your story is. The eardrum ("tympanic membrane") can bust for several reasons, from within or without, and then it can scar as it heals. Sometimes it scars so much you need to get it reamed-out before it turns into something worse. And your hearing should be checked too. ENT has a lot of ways to fix what you have.

Eustacian tube: Sounds like pressure changes inside ear. Try to drink a lot more water, chew gum frequently, take Mucinex (guaifenesin) plain over the counter, and use prescription steroid nasal spray for 2 weeks. If it doesn't improve, may need to see neurologist.

reg dr ref. me 2 ent for rupt. eardrum. b4 appt, she sugstd i use 9 parts water 1 part vinegar to clean it. is this safe? how much of each exactly?

Vinegar drops: Dilute vinegar drops are safe with ruptured eardrum, just be aware that you will have a slight burning sensation and/or vinegar taste in your throat as drops pass into middle ear and down Eustachian tube. The 1/10 dilution of vinegar gives you a 0.5% solution of acetic acid, the active ingredient. Usually we recommend a half strength dilution for 2.5% acid strength, but this burns more.

what to do if i'm suffering from perforated eardrum. from last 10 days. my ent dr. was giving xoclave antibiotic?

Ear infection: If the perforation is only for 10 days,it is a result of infection,antibiotics will help control infection,if the perforation persists,,,later option would be to consider repair of the drum

Obstruction?: The most likely cause is obstruction at the opening often associated with hay fever (allergic rhinitis). Sometimes chronic middle ear infection can do the same. The most likely solution would be something to control the nasal congestion which can be confirmed by an ENT or allergist.

i was told that my eardrum is bruised by ent, and can't afford ciprofloxin. what else would you prescribe? im worried, because i'm flying in 3wks!!

Notify ENT: there are cheaper generic options, let the ENT know about the cost issue to see if an alternative can be prescribed over the phone
