i get white tongue coating when taking flagyl. any way to prevent?

Need more info: 1) How often, and why, are you taking flagyl?
2) Do you get similar white coating or discharge on other mucus membranes, such as the vagina or anus?
3) Have you been treated for oral thrush, with any anti-fungal medicines, like clotrimazole or nystatin?

Rarely, persistent oral thrush can indicate HIV infection (AIDS). See a doctor to get a quick painless test to rule out this possibility.

Brush tongue: Try brushing your tongue to remove the coating.   Usually there is food and bacterial debris on the tongue that causes the coating. 
Allergies and post nasal drip can cause your throat to be sore and have the feeling that there is something in the back of your throat.

Suggestion: I would suggest scraping it off with a brush or better yet a tongue scrapper...  If it does  not come off or the halitosis does not improve... See your dentist for other options and a diagnosis.

Post nasal drip: check out "Understanding LPR" on You Tube.  This describes the most common cause of PND and tongue irritation, silent reflux.
If you can modify your lifestyle as suggested, you'll feel better.  If not, you may need to see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor near you.

A tongue lesion...: ...Can be syphilis or herpes, not gonorrhea (that usually causes a severe throat infection). There is also a harmless, common condition unrelated to sex, called "geographic tongue" which your doctor can easily diagnose.

Oral infection with gonorrhea is suspected when a patient who engages in unprotected oral sex informs their doctor. Gonorrhea may cause swelling and pain in the throat (pharyngitis) or it may cause tonsillitis & swallowing problems.

The affected throat resembles a strep throat with redness and occasionally may have some white spots or whitish/yellow discharge.
Chlamydia is the most commonly reported std in the United States.
Patients with oral chlamydia can develop a sore throat like symptoms.

Yes, ....: Oral sex with infected partners may transmit the diseases like gono or chlamydia. Some 1/2 of gono-infected women and some 1/10 of men who are infected with gono may be asymptomatic. So, be evaluated and counseled for current concern and future prevention. Best wish to health...

Yes: Both gonorrhea and chlamydia are diseases of mucosal(non-hairbearing) skin. The bacteria best transmit by genital to genital contact. The bacteria can survive briefly on surfaces such as fingers and if then the fingers contact mucosal skin, infection can occur. Transmission can occur even if urethral discharge is not overt.

No: These are not passed by kissing. Why would you kiss someone you know has gonorrhea and chlamydia though?
