Suggestion: I would suggest scraping it off with a brush or better yet a tongue scrapper... If it does not come off or the halitosis does not improve... See your dentist for other options and a diagnosis.

See your dentist : Your may be suffering from post nasal drip which can cause a thick white coating on your tongue especially notable when you wake in the morning. Bacteria collects with the mucous to make a sulfur smelling and tasting product. Your dentist can prescribe a mouthrinse or lozenge if they feel candida , a fungus, is starting to cause additional problems for you. I hope this helps.
