Period aberration: Since this is not your usual "period", wait and see if this pattern continues. If it does, see a GYN MD for assessment. Sometimes Mother Nature throws in a "change of pace" with menstrual cycles, then reverts back to her regular on time arrivals..

Needs evaluating: The blood can be from your urinary tract (urethra or bladder), the reproductive tract (vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus) or from the anus, colon, rectum. There are a multiple of causes of bleeding from any of these sites. I would recommend a visit to your physician for evaluation.

Menstrual fluid: This may be normal menstrual bleeding mixed with thickened vaginal mucous; however, if you see thick red-black clots that look like jelly- see your gyn for a pelvic examination. If you have missed a menstrual cycle, you must be checked for pregnancy.

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &amp;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Probably not: Doesn't sound like a miscarriage.  If it was your (on-time) period but you had had a positive pregnancy test, then it would have been a very very early pregnancy, considered a chemical pregnancy.  Technically a miscarriage, but before a clinically recognizable pregnancy had developed.

DUB: Dysfunctional uterine bleeding can occur with a change in hormone levels usually when the ovaries do not release an egg, ie. an anovulatory cycle. If the bleeding becomes heavy or continues, your primary care physician or OB-Gyn may prescribe birth control pills to normalize it.

Not so: If you typically do not have heavy periods then new onset blood clots and tissue is not necessarily normal. Certain factors need to be looked into further by your doctor. I also worry if you are bleeding so much that you mighty be feeling weak which can be a sign of anemia. Please be seen.

today at work i had passed a clot on my period and it seems to be tissue. i measured it and it is almost 2.5 inches. should i be worried or is this normal? i know for a fact i could not have been pregnant?

: You need not be concerned. Clots will form if the blood doesn't drain out very quickly and is a normal process. Menstrual blood contains some tissue from the uterine lining but older clots can also look very tissue-like.
