i started abx last sunday for sinusitis. my child has strep. i now have white spots on tonsils but no sore throat or fever. can i get strep?

Not on abx: If you are currently taking the kind of abx we give for strep, you cannot get it. If you finished &amp; it was a long acting med like azithromycin it is likely still working to prevent strep. Attack rate within families ranges from 1/4 to 1/32 depending on the season. I would not seek treatment unless you have symptoms fever,soreness.

Please see Dr.: Anytime you have a sore throat for over 24 hours, it's best to see the doctor and get a strep test.  If it's a virus, all that's needed is symptomatic care, but if it's strep, you need an antibiotic.  Untreated strep can lead to rheumatic fever, which can cause permanent damage to your heart and other organs.

No: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is very painful, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges and Tylenol can temporarily lessen pain, if any.

Tonsil white spots: Th white spots can be exudates (pus) or calcium deposits called concretions. Gargling with warm saltwater can help dislodge it or you can just pick it with a q-tip or applicator stick.

Tonsillitis: Cryptic tonsils with tonsilloliths versus tonsillitis. If you have fever, tenderness in your neck and discharge from the tonsils you should have a rapid strep+ throat culture and treatment depending on the size of your tonsils and how difficult it is to swallow. ENT surgeons grade the tonsils +1 to +4, +4 are touching and cause difficulty eating/swallowing. Prednisone and Clindamycin +refer to ENT

ive had a sore throat for 7 weeks. 4 weeks ago i had white spots on my tonsils. i also have had green mucus. its not strep throat. this happened immediately after i kissed someone new. a dr. on here said mono but i thought mono took months to show?

Can be tested: While it is true mono will take months to show, your "immediate" label is confusing. It would suggest an allergic response rather than a disease which would take a day or more at least. For it to last this long suggests you now have mono. The condition can be confirmed by blood tests.

Virus: If you were negative for strep, you didn't need penicillin.  If it's back, it's because it was probably a virus. Or you you were re-exposed to another agent.  Depends on timing.

Could be both: "tonsillitis" is a nonspecific term for inflammation of the tonsils.  "strep" refers to a specific cause of tonsillitis. But you can get strep without having tonsils and you can get tonsillitis without having strep.  Only a throat culture/rapid test can discern if strep is present.  Usually there is fever, swollen glands without cold symptoms in strep infection. Important to treat strep - see doc.

Food debris: If they are really enlarged it could be food debris that collects on surface.  Try rinsing with non alcohol rinse and see if it goes away.  You can also try a water pik set on real.  
Most importantly see your dentist.
