Depends: Drink more fluids, less caffeine and alcohol and if necessary use mom(milk of magnesia). But if you drink adequate fluids you should noty require a laxative or softeners.

Fiber: Fiber, especially in fruits and vegetables can ease constipation without causing hemorrhoids. Stool softeners like fiber are safe to use regularly. Laxatives should be used sparingly.

dr dx hemorrhoids today and recommended stool softener + mild laxative for 60 days.  what should i look out for which would warrant another visit or should i just assume meds will work?

Blood/pain: you should not have any rectal bleeding or pain. There should be no lumps extending from the rectal area.

so the laxative i took last night worked like a miracle, however i saw blood. i assume it was stiil hemorrhoids because i felt a lump and it didn't hurt so it couldn't be anal fissures right doc? it's been here since february. is this normal?

Wrong: At your age I would not assume hemorrhoids.The more common issue would be an anal fissure that often arises after a bulky or lumpy stool passes. It may or may not hurt at the time or while healing, They also can heal with a knot like lump during their initial healing phase. Keep your diet so your stools are soft &amp; this should heal over time.

hi doctors! i had a colonoscopy which thank god showed only diverticulosis and internal hemorrhoids. i seem to get constipation ""once in a while."" what would you suggest as a good laxative to ""keep around the house"" if the constipation resurfaces?

•Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day
•Exercise daily

Change your diet: you need to change your life style and your diet and keep your bowels regular and soft with the least use of laxative, you need to have a colonoscopy if you did not have one in the last five years, you need to eat more fruits and vegetables and eat more fibers and hydrate yourself real well, slow down on red meat and greasy food, exercise, use sitz bath and OTC medicine for hemorrhoid

i have a major phobia of pooping. i know it sounds funny, but i've taken laxatives, and i can't get myself to try to have a bowel movement. i'm afraid of the pain and the possibility of hemorrhoids. advice?

Constipation: Have you experienced pain during defecation? If not contraindicated, you should take 6-10 prunes in the night and drink a glass of water in the morning in addition to following your doctor’s advice about laxatives. Go to toilet only when you feel the need. It may take 2-3 days. Without exertion, hemorrhoids are rare. Once you will have soft stools, this fear will vanish for good . Hope

very good morning doctors!! what is best the best laxative among dulcolax tablets, senekot, colace, miralax for recurrent constipation? very recent colonoscopy (october 2020) overall normal except for diverticulosis and internal hemorrhoids?

Depends: Dulcolax and Senekot are propulsant laxatives that cause muscle activity to ‘squeeze’ stools toward the anus, while miralax draws water into the bowel to,force evacuation and colace  slick coats the stool to make it easier to pass. My preference is miralax because it has no lasting effect and action can be controlled with dose. But I really prefer diet with adequate fiber and liquids for daily BMs

Water, diet, walking: Hemorrhoids are a common problem, which result from increased pressure in the veins of the anus causing the veins to swell, making them itchy and painful (especially if the hemorrhoid clots, also known as thrombosis).  The pain is from stretching the lining of the anal canal from the engorged hemorrhoids.  Treatment is directed at treating the underlying cause for hemorrhoids.

Psyllium Fiber: If you want to only care for this without any surgical intervention, then psyllium fiber or an equivalent is likely the best treatment for long term. Make sure you purchase unflavored psyllium. Start with a teaspoon a night mixed in 16 oz of water every night. 

Unless they are stuck out and causing significant pain or itching, surgery can usually be avoided.
