Multiple sclerosis: Many diseases can cause "white spots" to appear on the MRI imaging studies of the brain and spine.  Multiple sclerosis is one of the most common conditions.  Strokes, cancer, infection, and some other rare neurological disorders can also cause similar issues.  Sometimes further physical examination, blood work,  and a spinal fluid tap may be necessary to get a diagnosis.

Yes: Ms medications reduce the chances of new relapses including new spots on MRI but they do not completely eliminate that possibility. There is a chance that spinal lesions will appear in the future even with meds but the meds will make that possibility much less. Hope this helps.

Nonspecific: White matter lesions could be nonspecific and can be associated with prior head injury, migraine, atherosclerosis, aging, and multiple sclerosis.  Mostly, there is need for clinical correlation.  If ms suspicion, spinal fluid could be tested, if question of arteritis or vasculitis, some blood tests might help.  (on occasion, radiologically isolated syndrome is used to classify a non-clinical ms).

Various: disorders may cause white spots on a baby's cerebellum. I am assuming you are referring to an MRI image. Leukodystrophies, post-viral syndromes, or metabolic disorders are some examples but you should speak with your pediatrician and may need a referral to a pediatric neurologist.

If the disk bulges: ...or herniations are putting pressure on the nerves as they exit the spinal cord, they could cause your symptoms. However, there are other causes as well.  Sciatica, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, spinal stenosis and meralgia paresthetica (LFCN) are some other causes.  I recommend that you follow up with your doctor if your symptoms persist or worsen. Nonspecific: Scattered white spots confined to the white matter of the brain are fairly common and not specific for a certain disease.  White spots in a person less than 50 yrs. Old, however,  are usually abnormal and may be seen with multiple sclerosis among many other entities.  As one ages, these are more likely due to tiny arterial blockages and are fairly common in people over 70 yrs. Old.

We don't know: You are probably referring to non-specific white matter lesions seen on MRI of your brain. We actually do not have a clear understanding of what these or what they mean. They are loosely associated with stroke and dementia. However, at 38 years of age I would not think your white spots are cause of your symptoms and am surprised you have them. They could be serious. Please get them checked out.
