Protein supplements: Ther are many sources of protein supplements besides whey. Protein from diet will work as well as supplements with vegetarian protein, pea protein, soy protein, rice protein etc.

It will help: There will likely be a small amount of leveling done in respect to your blood sugar.  You will likely feel full for longer, though, triggering you to eat less and have less cravings later.  If you really want to even out the spike, add fiber to your shake.  Cheers!

... clear liquids ..: Prior to colonoscopy 24 h regimen is clear liquids only, no red colors. Any dairy or protein drink are out of this recommendation . During prep drinking ...,apple juice is permitted - in case of diabetes can provide glucose if hypoglycemia . If you have special needs - consult w Gastroenterologist before procedure.   . .

Sure: Read the nutrition label and see if there is any added sugar. Most companies will add little sugar to make the protein isolate taste tolerable. Few companies will make whey isolates using stevia extract. 

Tips:  Enjoy the protein within 90 minutes of workout. Try it with skim milk if you dislike the taste with water.

Probably not: The medical community is divided on the dangers of Amino Acid and whey protein supplementation.  Some like me, think it may increase risk for cancer and multiple sclerosis. Best to get your protein from healthier, not dispud sources like beans, nuts, seeds, tofu and even wild fish like salmon.

Whey: Whey protein seems to be absorbed well. One thing to remember is that liquid protein tends to rush through the digestive tract quicker, yielding less absorption. To improve absorption, some recommend a digestive enzyme supplement to breakdown the protein and maximize absorption. According to studies, it is absorbed better than casein or soy.  I would stick with that and 1g protein per pound/day
