good day i have a dry cough and my chest feels irritated (kind of like a burning sensation). i am able to breathe fine and do not hear of any sights of wheezing. what might be causing this? also, if it anything treatable, what would you recommend?

If you are congested, a decongestant can be added, if you have allergies antihistamines. If bacterial, antibiotics may shorten duration cough

Depends: Depends on the cause..  Chronic coughs are often caused by post-nasal drip, asthma, or even reflux (gerd).  Of course infection is always a possibility, so blood work and an x-ray may need to be done.  Sometimes medications (ace-inhibitors for example) can cause a dry, nagging cough.  For any blood, you may need a ct or even a bronchoscopy - a lighted camera - ma need to be used.

Variety of causes: Cough can be due to a variety of causes from congestion due to upper respiratory infection, to asthma to cough due to whooping cough.  Without know the etiology it is unclear how to treat.  Best to followup with your child's physician for a proper diagnosis that will guide proper treatment.

Double trouble: Quite often a cold can be superimposed on underlying allergies.  This can make you even more miserable!  The usual over the counter cough and cold remedies can help you feel better while the body fights off the cold.  Often overlooked is nasal saline which helps the cough and drainage.  Nasal gel spray helps the dry irritated nose.

Depends on the cough: If you have an underlying medical issue like asthma and emphysema, speak to your doctor about this. If you have a cold a teaspoon of honey is as effective as many over the counter remedies. If you have fevers >102 of cough for more than 10 days, see your doctor.  Finally, for muscle pain, try Ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
